Backup

Backup is, as its name implies, the backup server in the lab. Its primary function is to provide backup to home directories. It is also a proxy server to reduce outgoing traffic.

Hardware

  • AOpen AXT4-II (Intel i850/ICH2-based) mainboard
  • Intel Pentium 4 1.7GHz (Willamette core, 256KB L2 cache)
  • 512MB (256MB x 2) PC800 RDRAM
  • (1) WD Caviar 80GB ATA HDD (WD800BB) (hde)
  • (4) Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 Plus 200GB ATA HDD (ST3200822A) (hd[a-d])
  • (1) 3Com gigabit server NIC (3C996B-T)

Software

  • OpenSUSE Linux 10.2
  • The 4 200B HDD are configured as a RAID 5 disk array. The available capacity is about 560GB.

Services

  • NFS file server (backup of home directories)
  • Proxy server (squid)
  • SSH server (root access only)
