Unlike deterministic real-time communication which can require excessive
resources, statistical real-time communication seeks to provide probabilistic
performance guarantees along with efficient resource sharing. This
work has considered statistical guarantees in the context of VBR transport
in ATM and a video-on-demand service in integrated services packet networks.
