Research Interests

My general research interests include computer networks, network security and sensor network. In particular I am interested in understanding various security issues such as software exploits, spam, system intrusion, malware propagation, etc and designing techniques to improve system security and help detection/prevention of such attacks. Much of my recent work emphasize on analyzing spam and botnet behaviors, collecting empirical data and developing accurate detection techniques for spam emails and various bots.

Current Work

I am working on Self-Securing Services for Handset Security project and looking into the problem of securing handheld devices especially smart phones against the emerging worms and viruses. As smart phones are often constrained by limited processing power and storage space, we are investigating the behavioral detection and adaptive containment techniques to achieve efficient malware prevention.

My current research also focuses on understanding the root causes of spams and developing approaches to stemming its growing abuse. We are conducting research on identifying sources of spams (e.g., botnet, dynamic IPs and hijacked prefixes) and developing fine-grained classification of botnet’s spam patterns to facilitate the design of future anti-spam approaches
