Delay-Efficient Routing Algorithms for Duty-cycled Wireless Sensor Networks

Energy conservation is one of the key technical challenges in wireless sensor networks and various duty-cycling schemes have been proposed as the main mechanisms to save energy. However, the dynamic change in topology as a result of duty-cycling has potentially disruptive effect on the performance of the other metrics such as coverage, connectivity and latency. In this work, we study the trade-off between energy-saving and latency performance for duty-cycled wireless sensor networks. We focus on the average end-to-end delay metric and propose delay-efficient routing algorithms for randomly duty-cycled wireless sensor networks.
